The key factors influencing motor power selection for bagasse dryers fall into three categories:

First, the characteristics of the bagasse material. Input moisture content typically ranges from 20% to 50%; higher moisture increases material adhesion during drum rotation and amplifies dynamic load fluctuations during the lifting and cascading processes, thereby raising power requirements. Additionally, larger particle sizes and higher viscosity increase the resistance—specifically inertia and friction—that must be overcome during rotation, further increasing power needs.

Second, dryer equipment specifications. Drum diameter and length are critical structural parameters. Rotational torque requirements rise geometrically with diameter; for a given length, a model with a 1.5m diameter requires approximately 1.5 to 2 times the power of a 1.2m model. Length is directly linked to processing capacity; for every 10 t/h increase in capacity, motor power must increase by 3–5 kW. Furthermore, the type of internal lifting flights (load fluctuations with lifting flights are about 30% higher than with dispersing flights) and drum rotation speed also affect power; a 5% increase in speed typically raises power demand by 2%–4%.

Third, auxiliary equipment and operating conditions. If the system includes an induced draft fan, screw feeder, or conveyor, the total power must account for these auxiliary units. Special operating conditions—such as low temperatures, high humidity, or high dust levels—require a 10%–15% safety margin to prevent motor overload caused by inadequate heat dissipation or dust accumulation.

Selection must balance safety margins with efficiency. An overload factor of 1.2 to 1.5 is necessary to handle fluctuations such as sudden spikes in bagasse moisture or uneven feeding. Simultaneously, the motor load rate should be maintained between 75% and 90% to optimize efficiency and power factor, avoiding energy waste from light loads or overheating from heavy loads. For large-scale dryers (with a processing capacity exceeding 50 t/h), it is recommended to use variable-frequency motors; adjusting the rotational speed allows the system to adapt to the varying characteristics of the sugarcane bagasse, thereby further reducing energy consumption.

In summary, selecting the motor power for a sugarcane bagasse dryer requires a comprehensive assessment of the material, equipment, and operating conditions. Balancing stability and energy efficiency through a combination of scientific calculation and empirical adjustment is essential to ensure the long-term reliable operation of the equipment.
